Three wide range cold waves occurred in winter of 2008 in Hebei Province, which were the most in the past 10 years, especially the cold wave appeared from 3 to 5 December 2008 was serious at the same period in the history. In this paper, the observed and forecasted by numerical p rediction p roducts including T213 and EC were compared from the atmospheric circulation features, intensity and moving path of the cold air and weather elements, etc. in order to test the capability of forecasting cold wave based on different numericalweather p rediction p roducts, and offermore forecasting reference in future. The results suggest that both T213 and EC can forecast the typ ical characteristics of cold wave outbreak, but T213 has a higher temporal and spatial resolution, and would bemore help in imp roving refined cold wave weather forecast..

Itwas p roved a false p rediction that the heavy rain would occur in Shijiazhuang on July 18, 2007, though the temporal - spatial distribution of synop tic systems and physics factors all indicated a hint of the rainfall. In order to find the reasons, some factors were diagnosed by using the conventionalmaterial and numerical p rediction p roducts. Results are as follows: (1) It is the main cause for false forecast that Shijiazhuangwas on the intermediate region of two shear lines, which resulted in a lack of vertical condition (mid dle - low shear line) ; (2) The estimation effect of convection development over Shijiazhuang by using physical quantities from Xingtai station is notwell; (3) A lack of the effective numerical forecasting p roducts resulted in this false p rediction; (4) The rainstorm occurred in Xingtai and Handan should fall into southwest vortex rainstorm ; (5) The earlywarning ability of severe weather can be greatly imp roved using satellite cloud images, radar data and meteorological factors from national automatic station.

Based on the daily p recip itation data from 17 meteorological stations in Shijiazhuang area during 1972 - 2007, the climatic
characteristics and change rule of rainstorm occurred in Shijiazhuang were analyzed using the linear trend, the statistical method, the
power spectrum method aswell as theMann - Kendall test, and the relation between rainstorm days and high temperature dayswas ana
lyzed in light of the Pearson correlation coefficient. Results indicated that less rainstorm years are obviouslymore in the recent 36 years
in Shijiazhuang area. In seasonal distribution, rainstorm appeared in Ap ril to November butmainly concentrated in July and August; The
increase ( decrease) trend of rainstorm ismost remarkable in June (July) ; The rainstorm started to increase slowly from the second - ten
- day ofMay, and sharp increased in early July, then achieved the peak in earlyAugust; Rainstorm number increase ( decrease) trend
ismost obvious in late June ( late July). In spatial distribution, rainstorm days decreased gradually from northwest, southeast to interior
area in Shijiazhuang, and yearly mean rainstorm days in each station is above one day. Annual rainstorm days p resented increasing
trend in the west, north and northeast of Shijiazhuang area, but decreasing trend in the east, south and northwest aswell as urban dis
trict. There is four and three years periodical change in the number of rainstorm, and negative correlation between rainstorm days and
high temperature days in Shijiazhuang area.
